History

One of the most famous stock car racing photos of the last century, July 4, 1984 to be exact, is that of "The King" Richard Petty heading for victory in the Firecracker 400 at Daytona Beach, Florida while adjacent to the back straightaway is Daytona International Airport where President Ronald Reagan was landing in Air Force One. This was Richard Petty's 200th and final victory of his career. President Reagan, a former radio sports announcer, went directly to the broadcast booth where he announced most of the remainder of the race to the sellout crowd and afterward dined with the drivers and crew members.

The 1984 Pontiac driven to victory by Richard Petty that day is on display at the Woodland Auto Display as of 9/1/21. It is not a replica but the authenticated car Richard Petty drove that day.

Also on display is a large copy of the photo mentioned above on display. It was presented to Richard Woodland by the Curator of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Museum & Library when our #86 Stock Car was one of six chosen to be displayed at the RRPM&L.
